Swedish Prime Minister resigns
Following the outcome of the Swedish elections on Sunday when Swedish Social Democratic Party lost more votes than ever before, Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson late last night announced that he will resign as Prime Minister and also as the leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party at an extra party congress in March next year.
Fredrik Reinfeldt from The Moderate Party will be Sweden's new Prime Minister during the next four years and his party, together with The Center Party of Sweden, The Liberal Party of Sweden and the Christian Democrats will form the new Swedish Government at the beginning of October.
What about the future drug policy?
Considering statements made by the leaders of the parties forming the new Government we expect that the Swedish restrictive drug policy will be strenghtened and developed over the next four years. Liberalisation and/or legalisation of drugs is out of the question. On the contrary, the Moderate Party, the biggest party in the new Government, has announced strong measures and zero tolerance on crime.
